Autumn Garden Tips

The well-maintained garden can often reach its peak in this season.
Although the autumn garden can be challenging, it is also rewarding.

Trees come into their prime in the autumn with varieties including maples brightening up residential streets and gardens with their leaves in every shade of yellow, orange, purple and red. Look to add some flowering bulbs and corms to your garden as they will make perfect additions to the autumn display.

Berries and fruits contribute to the richness of autumn, and if you are planning to plant fruit trees now is the perfect time as the tree will have time to settle in before the severe frosts. For new trees it is wise to tie a stake to the trunk of the tree to avoid it being blown over in any autumn winds.

Caring for your plants is obviously a year- round challenge, but when it comes to pruning, timing is very important. Don’t prune too early in autumn as this can result in soft new growth that is too weak to withstand the winter cold. back to top

Autumn Lawn Tips

As the days grow shorter and the temperatures begin to fall the rate at which the grass grows will slow, meaning that the lawn will need mowing less frequently. It is also a good idea to raise the height of cut as winter approaches. As always maintain your mower in good condition and keep the blades sharp.
Applying an autumn lawn feed gives the lawn the essential nutrients it needs to strengthen itself for winter. back to top
