Summer Garden Tips

There's nothing better than lazing in your garden drink in hand, soaking up the summer sun. And it's even more enjoyable if your garden is well-kept and in full bloom!

As the summer starts your garden should erupt in an explosion of colour!
For extra splashes of colour in your garden you may want to use container planting or hanging baskets. Remember to regularly turn your pots so the plants get equal exposure, otherwise the side facing the wall will perform poorly in comparison to the side in direct sunshine. And remember, as a general rule, the larger the container, the happier the plant.

Summer Lawn Tips

As we move into summer the growth of your lawn may start to slow down, mow as and when necessary never taking more than one third of the length of the plant off in any one cut. If temperatures become very hot your lawn will become stressed and it may be necessary to cut back on the frequency of mowing.

It will not be necessary to feed your lawn during summer. Summer is the time when drought can occur and a lawn can turn brown and straw coloured. Well maintained lawns will usually recover once the rains return. If possible, prevention is better than cure and the only way to prevent drought is to water the lawn. If you can water it is best to do this at the first signs of drought, when the grass is still green but starting to show signs of stress. If you can water try to do this evenly. The general rule here is early morning or in the evening. If your lawn does suffer from drought then mow as little as possible. back to top
